Braun Touts $110 Million in Road Grants and Boundless Recreation's Bristol Launch
Governor Mike Braun used an Oct. 28 economic summit in South Bend to announce Boundless Recreation's launch in Bristol, targeting up to 115 jobs by 2028, alongside $110 million in INDOT Community Crossings grants that send $255,000 to Elkhart and nearly $337,000 to Elkhart County. New Boundless jobs are pegged at 125% of the Elkhart County average wage, a number worth checking against your own assembly or QC pay scales if you draw from that same labor pool. Braun's framing cut both ways. He called the RV sector cyclical and tied to larger economic forces the same day he touted 3.3% unemployment, a labor market already tight enough that ITAMCO chairman Gary Neidig used the same stage to push for more trade school funding. A single boutique RV launch and a low statewide unemployment number don't cancel out the roughly 8% unit decline industry forecasters expect for RVs in 2026, and that gap is worth keeping in view.
- Impact
- Braun's own framing, Elkhart as 'cyclical... impacted by bigger front things', is doing double duty as cover for real exposure: the RV sector he's celebrating is heading toward an 8%-plus unit decline in 2026 per industry forecasts, even as he touts 3.3% unemployment that's tightening the same Elkhart County labor pool Boundless and ITAMCO are both drawing from. The event paired a consumer-facing RV jobs win with a quieter admission, Braun's own worry about the ag economy, showing the administration is managing a mixed picture, not a uniform boom.
