Maersk's Automated Singapore Hub Raises the Bar for Asia-Pacific Logistics Capacity
A.P. Moller-Maersk has opened World Gateway II, a 1.1 million-square-foot fully automated distribution center in Jurong West, Singapore, a roughly $156 million investment that doubles Maersk's warehousing footprint in the country and is expected to create about 500 jobs. Running Multi-Shuttle, ASRS, and autonomous robots at about 70% occupancy, the facility opens into a crowded corridor: CMA CGM's CEVA Logistics runs its own automated multi-shuttle system nearby, and DSV, now the world's largest freight forwarder after its $14.3 billion DB Schenker acquisition, has pushed its own Singapore automation past $1 billion in revenue.

For Indiana manufacturers sourcing components from or exporting to Asia-Pacific, this expands the pool of automated capacity competing for freight lanes you depend on.
For your morning huddle
- Q
As APAC logistics hubs race to automate, should we be reassessing our buffer stock and lead-time assumptions for components sourced through Asia-Pacific supply chains?
Yes. More automated 3PL capacity in Singapore means more competition for the same freight lanes, and buffer stock or lead-time assumptions set before this round of automation came online are worth re-checking now rather than after a shipment slips.
Briefing note
- Impact
- This opens directly into a contested corridor: CMA CGM's CEVA Logistics has deployed its own automated multi-shuttle systems nearby, and DSV (now the world's largest freight forwarder after its $14.3 billion DB Schenker acquisition) has pushed its Singapore revenue past $1 billion with its own automated DSV Pearl facility in the same market. The facility is also timed to Tuas Mega Port's buildout toward 20 million TEUs annually by 2027, positioning Maersk to capture downstream warehousing demand before rivals' integration synergies fully kick in. For Indiana manufacturers sourcing components from or exporting to Asia-Pacific, this expands the pool of automated 3PL capacity competing for your freight lanes.
- Watch
- Occupancy ramp beyond the current 70% and Tuas Mega Port's progress toward its 2027 Phase 1 throughput target.
