Honda's Greensburg Manufacturing Day Recruits Into a Lineup That's Already Changing
Honda brought students from five area schools through its Greensburg plant on October 5, where they built Lego assembly lines and learned how 3D printing supports production of the Civic Hatchback and CR-V. The Greensburg plant employs about 2,700 people and builds up to 250,000 vehicles a year. Automotive News reported this week that Honda has canceled next-generation Civic sedan production at Greensburg for 2028 and pushed the CR-V redesign back to March 2027. The students touring the floor this month are being recruited into a product lineup that corporate has already started rewriting, and this year's event newly included Honda's procurement and supply chain staff, a sign the company is building a pipeline for vendor-side talent too, not just assembly hires.

- Q
Given Greensburg's product mix is shifting, are we training the Decatur County talent pipeline for specific models, or for adaptable skills that survive a line change?
Not necessarily. Automotive News reported Honda canceled next-generation Civic sedan production at Greensburg for 2028 and delayed the CR-V redesign to March 2027, so the curriculum built around today's Civic Hatchback and CR-V lines may not match the plant's lineup in two years.
Briefing note
- Impact
- Automotive News reported October 7, 2026 that Honda has canceled next-generation Civic sedan production at Greensburg for 2028 and delayed the CR-V redesign to March 2027, meaning the plant showcasing today's Civic Hatchback and CR-V lines to students is recruiting into a product roadmap that's being quietly truncated even as tariff pressure pushes Honda to consolidate more import production into Indiana. The event also newly includes Honda's Procurement and Supply Chain Center staff for the first time, suggesting Honda is using Manufacturing Day to cultivate supplier-side and vendor talent, not just direct assembly hires, a dimension absent from local coverage.

- Whether Honda confirms a replacement model assignment for Greensburg's post-2028 lineup, and any update on the delayed CR-V redesign timeline now set for March 2027.
