Indiana Launches $10.79 Million ADAPT Grant for Auto Suppliers

ADAPT, short for Automotive Diversification and Production Transition, offers Indiana auto suppliers with fewer than 1,500 employees matching grants of $100,000 to $1 million, reimbursement-based, with a required 1:1 match. Applications close January 8, 2027, reviewed jointly by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, Conexus Indiana, and the U.S. Department of Energy, which funded the program as part of a $50 million award split across five states.

Roughly 320 Indiana suppliers qualify, and Michigan's parallel program already named its 11 winners in September after launching with more than double Indiana's funding pool. Indiana's own Manufacturing Readiness Grant, which delivered nearly $80 million across 85 counties, was zeroed out of the current state budget. ADAPT is now the only active state-administered capital grant for Indiana manufacturers, and the math says most of the 320 eligible suppliers will get nothing.

Impact
Michigan's parallel Supplier Conversion Grant Program launched eight months earlier with $22.6 million, more than double Indiana's pot, and already named its 11 winning companies in September 2026, giving Michigan suppliers a 6-to-12-month head start bidding for the same Tier 1 purchase orders. Indiana's own Manufacturing Readiness Grant, which delivered $79.8 million across 85 counties, was zeroed out of the 2025-27 state budget, meaning this narrowly-scoped $10.79 million federal award is now the only active state-administered capital grant vehicle for Indiana manufacturers, and with roughly 320 eligible suppliers chasing awards capped at $1 million, a clear haves-versus-have-nots split is baked in before a single grant is issued.

For the huddle

Given Michigan's six-month head start and bigger funding pool, should we fast-track our ADAPT application now, and which propulsion path (hybrid, battery-electric, or hydrogen) best matches where our Tier 1 customers are actually placing orders?

Yes, if you're an Indiana auto supplier under 1,500 employees. With roughly 320 eligible companies chasing a pool capped at $1 million per award, waiting to see how it shakes out means applying after the strongest proposals are already in.
