Amazon's $100 Million Robotics Manufacturing Plant Lands in Greenwood
Amazon announced on September 24 that it will invest more than $100 million in a 585,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility at 1175 Collins Road in Greenwood, Johnson County, creating 300 jobs averaging nearly $100,000 a year. The plant will combine fabrication, robotic welding, automated powder coating and assembly under one roof, supported by AWS and AI-powered manufacturing systems, to build equipment for Amazon's own robotics and fulfillment network. Operations are expected to start by 2028.
This is Amazon turning from customer to competitor in Indiana's automation supply chain. Dematic and the recently sold Honeywell Intelligrated, now owned by American Industrial Partners after a July 2026 acquisition, are watching their biggest customer build robots in-house, which narrows the market those third-party integrators serve. Amazon is also equipping an existing building rather than constructing a new one, so most of that $100 million is equipment spending, not construction spending, meaning the local construction multiplier officials are citing will be smaller than the headline number suggests. For how this fits with other recent Indiana announcements, see our earlier coverage of Amazon's Greenwood plant alongside AES Phase 2 and the Samsung SDI New Carlisle project.
- Impact
- This is Amazon turning from customer to competitor for Indiana's automation supply chain: Dematic and the recently PE-sold Honeywell Intelligrated (bought by American Industrial Partners in July 2026) now watch their biggest customer build its own robots in-house, compressing the market third-party integrators serve. It's also worth noting Amazon is equipping an existing building rather than building new, meaning the $100M is mostly equipment capex, not construction spend, which limits the local construction multiplier officials typically tout.

- For the huddle
With Amazon and Nucor both hiring CNC operators, welders and controls engineers in Indiana over the same 2027-2029 window, what's our retention plan before these two projects reset local wage floors for skilled trades?
Yes. Nucor's Crawfordsville expansion and Amazon's Greenwood plant are both hiring CNC operators, welders and controls engineers on roughly the same 2027 to 2029 timeline, at average wages near $87,500 and $100,000 a year. If your facility needs the same trades, you are bidding against two nine-figure projects, not just the local labor market.
